LAURA HOLLINGSWORTH

Laura specialises in patent and design intellectual property in the fields of mechanical engineering, medical devices, and ICT innovations. With her strong engineering background, Laura is able to quickly gain a deep understanding of new, innovative technologies.

Laura has extensive experience advising on patentability, assessing infringement, and preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications, both locally and overseas. Before returning to Wellington and joining Catalyst Intellectual Property, Laura worked in Australia for a leading IP firm where she gained experience providing litigation support for legally and technically complex contentious matters.

As well as constantly learning about new technologies and innovations, Laura enjoys working with clients to develop strategies to utilise patents and designs in an intelligent way that is aligned with their commercial objectives. Her approach is commercially strategic, pragmatic and honest. Laura works with clients ranging from small start-ups through to large companies and universities.

When qualifying as a patent attorney, Laura won prizes for the top mark nationally in five of the six qualifying exams, along with the New Zealand Institute of Patent Attorneys Council prize for overall performance in 2011. In her spare time, Laura enjoys road cycling, mountain biking, and when she can, exploring the New Zealand backcountry on tramping adventures.
